Batman: Year One

The Batman: Year One is on the sixth chapter, I’m glad of the progress I’m making with the novel, despite it’s December 2009 release date. So, if I do manage to finish the novel before time, you the reader should expect more then one chapter a month.

With the Indie Revolution coming this July 5th , I plan to treat the reader into a more in depth of what the novel will hold. And the entire first chapter will be there for all to read. I have gone back, to change a few things here and there on the first rough draft you read at last year Indie Revolution. The one you will read this July, is the final draft.

“ THE BIRTH OF THE BATMAN “

Before I created Batman: Year One, there was a different verison. It was called ” The Birth Of The Batman “  the story brought us a young teenage Bruce Wanye about to head to college, and ready to leave the nest of his father and mother.  Young Bruce is a very skilled young man in martial arts, and loathes the mob that has taken control over Gotham. It’s this that forces young Bruce to push away from Gotham and never return.

His father Thomas is at work, trying to battle  the poverty and take a stand against the mob that is driving Gotham to it’s knees.  His mother Martha, is a psychiatrist working in Arkham Asylum were she meets a young Joker.

Thomas Wanye is murder in front of Bruce’s eye, his rage leads him to dawn the mask and rid Gotham of the mob once and for all. But while taking up this battle he meets with a manic calling himself the Scarecrow , who is hoping to take control of the streets.

The story never made it to page,  it only went through the planning stages. My reason for not perusing ” The Birth Of The Batman ” was due to the lack of a story line that I could generate from it.  This novel seemed fit for one book and nothing more. Batman: Year One holds so much in depth storyline, and it’s not because the title is Year One, which the reader  expects to see Year Two.

I had almost forgot about this first incarnation that came before Year One,  I thought it would be a treat for all to see.  It’s always fun hearing what steps a writer took until they found the right pattern to their story.

The verison of Gotham I’m trying to tell is one, filled with hate, despair and corruption. I want Gotham to feel real, create characters you’ll find believable, I don’t want those outrages character like Clayface, or ManBat. They seem – and I don’t want to upset any Batman fans- to dumb down the Batman story.

We’ve seen the dark side of Gotham told by Frank Miller, Christopher Nolan, Jeph Lobe. So as a writer, you have to step outside the box they walked and still try to keep the story interesting to the reader, and make sure you don’t alienate the diehard fans who know the story by heart. At the same time you want to bring people who haven’t read the story, all in on, you have to make sure the story is good enough for anyone.

Batman Year One is the retelling of the Batman, as he fights the mob that have claim Gotham for themselves. I know people are wondering what big name villain will we see? One person I can rule out is the Joker. Everyone know’s he’s the finest villain that pushes Batman to his limits, making him the logical response to the Dark Knight. I’m also creating new characters that haven’t been seen, and shaping old ones to fit the mold of my version.

With the Indie Revolution coming in seven months, I plan to release another chapter of the rough draft random chapters. Small teasers to grab your attention before the release date on December 2009. Until then you’ll have to wait, I’ll be keeping you posted with new details and characters.

As you know Batman Year One is only a year away.  To kick things off, I’m going to create the Batman Year One Novel official website, it launches on May 1, 2009. It’ a big event and I hope that you’ll come and see it when it releases.

The Site Will Carry Everything About The New Novel, And Deeper Insight.

The Site Opens May 1, 2009.
