So recently I watched 10 Cloverfield Lane, going to be brutally honest, It really didn’t need the Cloverfield in it, seeing how this film could stand on it’s own. Matter fact it was before the rights were bought by Bad Robot, and made it into Cloverfield shared universe.
This film is a 100% thriller, with John Goodman showing the world why you should fear a giant like him. The one thing I learned is that you shouldn’t fuck with John Goodman, cause he can snap your neck. But that’s the power of good acting, props to him! The cast was stellar, it’s hard to get three people to work so well. Sometimes you’ll have that lame duck, but not here. The people in this film was pure greatness.
The intensity is there the moment they enter bunker, it feels like Alfred Hitchcook ROPE, where the film is stuck in the same setting, only with this film you do get jumps. Not like ROPE where the film was shot almost in one take. It’s the shoe horn Cloverfield part that kinda takes away. I felt let down when I saw it, it felt it went from grade A thriller, to a B Sci-Fi flick and it killed it. The real monster was man, and if they made it about just that, this film would of dropped kick you to a new plateau. I am hearing rumors of another that will tie into this and make all three films one trilogy. It would be nice, and it sounds interesting as hell. No way does this make this film fall flat, that’s just mainly my own gripe. I don’t think this film will be listed with the greats, but it’s sure thing of being a hidden gem, and keeps you hooked.
I gave 10 Cloverfield Lane a 8.5 out of 10.
